The Heritage Stone Mason will be responsible for preserving, repairing, and reconstructing historic stone structures using traditional methods and materials with specific focus on conservation and authenticity.

Duties:

Repairing and restoring existing stonemasonry, brickwork, or earthen structures, which includes working on facades, archways, statues, and monuments.

Selecting, cutting, and shaping natural stone (such as sandstone, limestone, marble, and granite) using both traditional hand tools (chisels, hammers) and modern power tools.

Preparing and applying appropriate traditional materials, especially lime mortars, which requires an understanding of their specific properties and application methods in conservation projects.

Installation and Fixing: Installing new or repaired stone components, ensuring they match existing structures in alignment and appearance.

Collecting photographic, written, or digital records of the structure’s condition before work is carried out to maintain historical accuracy and integrity.

Interpretation of Plans: Reading and interpreting blueprints, technical drawings, and historic surveys to ensure work conforms to design specifications and building regulations.

Performing mechanical and chemical cleaning of masonry surfaces and applying finishes or hand-cut ornamentation where required.

Adhering to health and safety regulations, especially when working at heights, operating machinery, and handling heavy materials.

Any other role related duties that may be assigned by the Head of Projects from time to time.

Qualifications:

Certification in construction and/or conservation.

Minimum 2 years on-the-job experience.

Strong understanding of traditional building techniques.

Ability to work with natural stone (limestone, sandstone, granite, etc.).

Knowledge of historic architecture styles.

Skilled in hand tools as well as some modern equipment.

Attention to detail, precision and patience.

No issues with working outdoors on scaffolding or at height.

May collaborate with architects and conservation officers.

Practical problem-solving and analytical abilities.

Good project and time management.

Commitment to safety, quality, and environmental standards.

Excellent organisational, coordination, and communication skills.
